Jeff Robbins is an
educator who makes learning fun. Robbins exposes students to the wide
variety of sounds that comprise America's richest musical tradition, the
music of the southern Appalachians. Jeff Robbins, a southwestern
Virginia native, presents an upbeat, informative program of southern
Appalachian music, stories and dance.
Blending education and
entertainment, Robbins will familiarize your students with the
instruments that he and his father have made such as the fiddle, banjo,
mandolin, dulcimer, guitar, and a, "One String Pork-n-Bean Guitar."
Upon request, Jeff also offers a workshop making, "One String
Pork-N-Bean Guitars."
The performance is 40 minutes in which the audience will not soon
forget. Your students will grow quiet during his traditional mountain
tales, share the joyful energy and participation of sing-a-longs and an
unusual, "sit-down square dance." The program is engaging, educational,
participatory and most of all, a lot of fun! Jeff makes their heritage
so much fun, your students will only later realize how much information
they absorbed! His spellbinding method of teaching our mountain
musical heritage has taken Jeff to perform in over 7000 schools across
our nation.
"No better short course in traditional American music is available."
